Cookie fun

Sariah is a cookie monster. No, not the Sesame Street kind - the kind that loves to make and eat them.

So, I enlisted her help to make Easter Baskets full of cookie flowers. A little flour (in the cookies - a lot of flour on the floor, in our hair, on the counter.....), some fun little sprinkles, and off we go.

This cookie session was full of adventure as well. The recipe called for putting the wooden sticks in the cookies prior to baking them. Will they spontaneously combust? Turn black and crumble to ashes? Believe it or not.....they survived just fine. I've never met a Pillsbury Bake Off recipe that didn't turn out perfectly and this one was no different.

So, here are the results. They turned out really cute.....if I say so myself.

Why?

OK, so we like peanut butter at our house. I wouldn't say that we like it any more than anybody else, but we consume our share of peanut butter sandwiches. When Joshua's friends are around, we probably consume more than our share of peanut butter sandwiches. So, one would expect that we'd have an open jar of peanut butter in the pantry.

But could someone please explain to me why I have six - count 'em, six - open jars of peanut butter in the pantry? Apparently the peanut butter peeps at my house think that peanut butter isn't any good unless it's brand new and never been opened. So, if there's a new jar of peanut butter in the pantry it gets opened. Even if there are five other already opened jars ready for bread and jelly.

Therefore, I'll let you in on my new secret. I'll be hiding new jars of peanut butter in the laundry room until the old jars have been eaten. Seeing that no one ever goes in the laundry room except for me (a blog for another day), the new jars will be safe and I'll have room in the pantry for something other than half empty jars of peanut butter.

School Days

I thought the other day about how tired I get of doing schoolwork this time of year. No, it's not my schoolwork - it's Joshua's. But it sure feels like mine! Homeschooling requires a little extra effort. OK, homeschooling requires a lot of extra effort. But it's so worth it! We have a great time with it and the best part is that he's actually learning something.

I call it homeschooling, just because we do school at home. But he actually goes to school online through K12. He has real teachers, live classroom via the internet, and lots and lots of learning experiences.

Someone asked me the other day if I was concerned that homeschooling prevented Joshua from getting the social interaction that he needed. I said, "have you actually been IN a junior high school lately?" That kind of social interaction is interaction I can do without. Yikes!

So, we like it. It's not for everybody. But it sure has been great for us.
